If SC2 showed anything it's that very little at this stage is final. Graphics/concepts are all subject to a lot of change from here on. I'm well inclined to trust Blizzard to make decent development choices and listen to community feedback, so developments from here on should be interesting.

Hehe. Every ladder reset I usually had 2-3 sorceresses, blizzard, chain thunder/thunder, fire ball... And only two first got to level 80 just to realise both are kinda bad.

I'm really looking forward to this...really really looking forward to it. Looks awesome, and still seems to retain the things that made the original and it's sequel great.

Omg I almost missed it during the gameplay demo.
Towards the end with the final creature, one of the warriors gets biten in half.
ahhh
Ah switching skills mid combat instead of going into town rocks.

i always played necromancer in D2...i wonder if the witchdoctor is replacing necro? it looks like the same thing except it summons allies out of thin air instead of from corpses

Actually, all three of those sorcs were awesome. 7-frame Fireball sorcs were lolz in duels, and Infinity Light sorcs destroyed PvM hard.
I'm looking forward to 7f teleports in a 3D environment.

At this point the Witch Doctor seems categorically better than the necro. He doesn't need corpses for his summons, and his minion explosion does ridiculous damage; if you watch the Siegebreaker fight, the minion explosions appear to do significantly more damage than any other attacks used.

Looks fantastic. Sure, it's 1996-style gameplay, but I loved it back then, and I can't see why that needs to change.
If anything bothers me, it's the blood-and-guts level (a guy gets his head bitten off!) that's going to discourage some of the more sensitive people in my life from every playing it with me.
The other thing is the fact that Vivendi is pure evil, and I have a lot of trouble justifying giving them money. Maybe I'll have to buy the game, then pirate something of theirs to assuage my conscience...

I hope they abandon frame-based skill timing in favor of something time-based with a high granularity. They never really balanced things well at the frame level. For example, towards the end, things reached a point where you had a 4-frame melee attack or you didn't, and little else mattered. (Much to the irritation of my wolf druid, who couldn't achieve 4 frames with any combination of gear and skills.) I'd like to see the game be less about hitting frame breakpoints than D2 came to be.

Yes, but he also looks categorically "gheyer" than the necro. (Please, forgive the slur, but that seems like the most accurate word.) I'd be happy with the new witch doctor skillset on a necro.

But yeah, Blizzard has the money and courage to cancel games rather than release shitty ones.

actually the lead designer said this has been in the works since LOD, so yeah.
It's just like StarCraft 2 in that respect, which has been in developement for a long ass time.

Actually, the frame timing issue brings up another point - there doesn't seem to be significant hitstun in D3. In D2, hitstun kicked in at 12% of your maximum health, but I don't see that here. I think the only stuns the player characters incurred were when they were hit by boss attacks (the T.Pounder's double slash/slam, and the Siegebreaker's swipes). I'm pretty sure there were early instances where they lost similar amounts of health.
I actually liked the frame system, as you basically built sets of gear with sharp tradeoffs between speed, power, mobility, etc. As a bowzon, for instance, you could run matriarchal bows with lots of IAS to hit the magical 7f breakpoint for block/stunlock, or you could pack a more damaging bow and +damage while hitting 8 or 9f. Casting breakpoints had similar tradeoffs - more +skills for raw damage, or more casting speed for the 7f breakpoint? In short, you didn't get to manage your abilities on a smooth sliding scale - you had to consider, from a tactical standpoint, which breakpoints you wanted to hit for attack speed, hit recovery, cast, etc. and what sort of equipment sacrifices you had to make. The fact that druids could never reach 4f is a separate balance issue specific to druids, I think.
Finally, I think the main issue with the frame system in Diablo is that it was a 25fps system rather than the 60fps system used in, e.g., all fighting games. I think 60f gives it enough granularity that the difference between 4f and 5f wouldn't mean automatic loss. It could, I suppose, be argued that the 60fps system is only really useful in a realtime, lagless environment like a console/arcade game.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like the look either. But, I've kind of given up on Diablo holding its atmosphere. D2 already took a huge step away from the claustrophobic, gothic-horror-feel of the original Diablo. D3 is just another big step in the same direction. I originally started playing Diablo for the atmosphere and style (like many, my first encounter with The Butcher was unforgettable), but by the time I'd seriously gotten into D2, I'd turned it into a purely mechanics game.

I always had 300-400+ ping in Asia, so I never got to enjoy fcr above a certain level (especially with teleport). I just made bliz sorcs because blizzard doesn't miss from lag

also the game is going to be free multiplayer, following along with its predecessor in Battle.net

In my opinion, graphics don't matter, as long as they aren't completely horrible. Gameplay is what I care about.
And yes, free multiplayer owns.

You said it... the butcher part made that game and would be something neat to check out if you never played it b4. I was hoping GW would have something evil like that when I went into the various tombs/undead areas, but oh well. Maybe gw2 or d3 will add some better storytelling to go with better mechanics... like my fav... d2's barbarian leaping into whirlwind move...
